Heather had this brilliant idea the other day. Her old laptop had died several months ago, and it was just sitting in pieces on her floor. (Since then she's gotten another, cooler laptop). Her old, broken laptop was pretty much the same model as mine, with different innards. So she thought, 'why don't you use my old screen on your laptop'. So I took it home and swapped them out. Luckily they were exactly the same size (case, not screen) and all is well. The best part is, I used to have a 14" screen, now I have a 15" screen! And on top of that, I no longer have to use a lame 1024x768 resolution. Now I'm kicking ass at 1400x1050. If anyone's ever used 1024x768 for an extended period of time, you'll understand how excited I am to now use a desktop at 1400x1050. It's so great. I love Heather!
We had a race against a bunch of teams on Sunday at the Newport Regatta. Our race was against UCLA, SDSU 'A', SDSU 'B', UCSD, OCC, and us. Here are the results.
2nd Varsity 8: OCC 6:19.5 UCSD 6:25.9 UCI 6:36.6 UCLA 6:40.3 SDSU B 6:46.0 SDSU A 7:01.5
Looks like we didn't so well. Wasn't our best race of the year, but on the upside, we only have one race left; next Saturday/Sunday up in Sacramento for WIRA. I'll have some picturs up later.
Last night, Hipster, Masterd, Penboy and I went to see Nofx in concert at the Bren Center. Also playing were some random band I dont remember, Authority Zero and Alkaline Trio. I've never heard Authority Zero before and I thought they sounded really good. Not only were they pretty good as a band, but the sound technitions actually did a good job and so they SOUNDED great too. Alkaline Trio was good, although as Heather put it 'a lot of their songs sounded the same'. On to the reason I went to the show, Nofx.
Seriously, when nofx got up to start playing, the entire pit was rocking. Nofx sure does know how to put on a show. A lot of bands just get up there and play 10 songs and that's it, but not nofx. After every song, they'd do something hilarious or at least interesting. Not to mention the fact that they sounded REALLY good. At least I thought they did, but maybe that's just coming from a die-hard nofx fan. I'd have to say it was the best set by a band I've seen in a long time (rivaled only perhaps by another nofx performance at the Warped Tour in 2000).
Last night, Heather and I went to the most expensive restaurant either of us have ever been to. It's a place called Morton's Steakhouse in Santa Ana (although they have restaurants nationwide). The only reason we went was because my mom had given me a giftcard worth $80. Right off the bat we were worried that it was gonna be REALLY expensive. I ordered a large porterhouse steak which was pretty good, and Heather ordered a large piece of swordfish, which I hear was also pretty good. Only problem was, my steak cost $42 and the swordfish was about $30. No matter how great it was, it wasn't worth $42. Anyways, after all the damage had been done, the total came out to be $108 (plus tax and tip, $134).
I don't think I'd ever eat at one of those places with my own money, even if I had millions of dollars to waste. It just seems like its SOOOOOOOO overpriced that I could do just as good lighting my money on fire and cooking cheap steaks by the flame. I mean, Heather ordered a crab cake and it cost $12. $12 for a crab cake no bigger than the ring of a small fountain cup from Carl's Jr. We did have a good time though, so I guess it was worth it seeing we did have a lot of it paid for :)
Should I feel guilty for eating an entire box of Samoas/Caramel deLites today at work? I mean, they were so good, yet why do I feel like I shouldn't have?
Just got my grades back for last quarter. Not so bad. Here they are so you can decide for yourself. I'm actually surprised I got a C in Math 105B. God, I hate math with a passion. I'm sooooooo glad I never have to take another math class again.

Last weekend the UCI crew team took a trip down to San Diego for the Crew Classic. This is always a fun event and we have fun every year we go. I still remember when I was a freshmen, there was so much rain that one of the boats sank as it crossed the finish line. Anyways, on to the results. In our first race on Saturday, we raced against Washington, Oregon St, San Diego St and UC Davis. There was a lot of really rough water and we did pretty bad. We ended up fourth in the race. Which actually was the place we were 'supposed' to finish, but the time was pretty bad. The time from the race officials was 7:18, which seemed to us to be REALLY REALLY bad. But as I just noticed from the Jamco website, they clocked us at a much more respectable 6:53. Of course 6:53 is still not good, but given the racing conditions, it's not horrible.
As for the second race on Sunday, we raced against UCLA, UC San Diego, Santa Clara and San Diego St. We stayed up for almost an hour and a half the night before going over the race in detail with our coxswain just to make sure he knew what to do. We were so pumped up on Sunday because not only did we want to win, but we wanted to beat UCLA to make up for our close loss to them a few weeks ago. We ended up in lane 1, which was supposed to help us quite a bit if the wind/current got bad. The race got underway, and just like we expected, it was neck and neck the whole way down. Up to about the 1200m mark, all crews were within 2 seats of each other. At the 1500m mark, we made our move to put us in the lead for good. After an awesome sprint towards the finish line, we edged out SDSU for the victory. It was awesome. What made it more awesome was the face that on top of the face that my parents drove down and fed the entire team, Heather and her mom drove all the way down from Irvine just to watch this one race, and they were treated to a great race. RegattaShots.com should have some pictures up of the race soon, and I will have some pictures up soon that my Dad took as well.
